It’s Time To Walk Away, out now. The tenth and final in a long line of new releases commemorating 10 years of Faint Waves music; 10 releases for 10 years, it’s been a hell of a ride this year. Thanks for celebrating with me, thanks for listening, thanks for everything. Here’s to the next 10.
As for this release, we started the year with a piano-driven release, why not end on one. Sentimental was the first release of the year; it was sort of a piano-driven New Wave, Sophistipop thing that drew on Flock Of Seagulls, Deacon Blue, and The Waterboys, among others. This release, while still prominently featuring the piano, charts a different course. It’s an atmospheric, downtempo, jazzy, vaguely hip-hop or trip-hop tinged outing. The titular song floats on breezy pads and new age bird song. While B-Side, “I’ve Got To Let This Go”, is a more discordant affair with thunder and crashing waves as the foundation. The single is out now, everywhere, I’ll include links down below.
As I’ve covered elsewhere but have yet to mention here (more to come later this month in a year-in-review article I’m putting together), this may be the last release of its kind on the FW Bandcamp page for a while, as I’m turning my attention away from Faint Waves a bit to focus on a new enterprise altogether: an internet record label. It’s something I’ve kicked around for the last four years or so and the truth is, there isn’t going to be any “right” time for it, so why not start now. I’m calling it A2K Recordings, what I’ve dubbed “music for the new millennium”, it’s going to focus largely on the genres I grew up with in the 90’s and early 00’s; Alternative, Punk, Hip-Hop, Electronica, and the genres that land between them. It’ll be a label of my own, for releases of my own, my friends, and whoever comes along. It’s been a labor of love so far and I look forward to focusing on it in 2025. After 10 years, what better time for a new chapter. Faint Waves won’t be going anywhere, in fact, a new FW release will debut on A2K. Feel free to give A2K a follow as well, if you’re so inclined.
Thank you, see you soon for my 2024 year-in-review.
~ FW.
